On Friday I took the day off so I could take Henry to his ear checkup and do some last minute things around the house before Grandma Gwen and Aunt Jennifer arrived. It was a very nice morning. The ENT office has a play room in the waiting room and Henry remembered this and seemed excited to go there so he actually behaved himself. When I dropped off Baby A both he and Miss R were very good about staying off the carpet which they usually are not. There is a no shoes on the carpet policy because the babies are crawling around on it all day.
Henry's ears checked out with flying colors which was nice. He remembered that they use Winnie the Pooh and Tigger in their sound proof room as a reward for the kids when they get it right. He repeated many times, "I want Winnie the Pooh and Tigger too!"
After the ENT I took him to see Poppy. Henry had a dream and woke up distressed and only wanted to see Poppy. Since I was going to be in the neighborhood, Kate suggested we visit Poppy so Henry could see he was ok.
He was then dropped off at school where he had no problems saying goodbye to me. He walked to a table and sat down and started playing without so much as a second look. He really seems to be doing well in the new class. I think one part of that is there are so many more things to do. They have computers, they go to different rooms in the daycare to do different activities and he gets to play on the big kids playground. I think he might also like being the young one in with older kids because he likes it when they help him with things like the computer, which he doesn't know how to use yet.
In the afternoon my mother, sister and two nephews came to visit. After picking them up at the airport we went to daycare and picked up the kids. We had a rather large group there but it worked out just fine and it was fun to show them around the place because it is a very nice facility.
We then came to our place and had some pizza and hung out. It was a nice evening. Henry took to Wyatt almost immediately. They played and played. At one point some of us including Wyatt went for a walk and Henry stayed home. He ran around the house calling for Wyatt and eventually convinced Kate to take him out on a walk so he could find cousin Wyatt.
Saturday everyone except Kate and Baby A went to the movies. We saw Dispicable Me which was pretty good. Henry sat between grandma Gwen and cousin Wyatt and hardly said a word the whole time. Miss R sat on my lap and we sat near cousin Charlie. Then we took the toddlers down to the play area for a little while.
I took the toddlers home to take a nap. Henry of course slept 15 minutes in the car and woke up as soon as he was put in his bed. I really wanted them to nap because we were going to the Desert Museum and it was going to be a late night.
In the evening we met up again and went to dinner at El Charro. Out of coincidence we ran into Kate's parents who were having dinner with some of Hank's high school friends. The kids were moderately well behaved. Miss R enjoyed her rice. Henry saw cousin Wyatt having churros for dinner and abandoned his dinner in favor of those.
We went to the Desert Museum. I think Wyatt and Charlie enjoyed looking for scorpions on the various rock walls with a black light. We made the mistake of trying to take Henry, Miss R and Baby A to an indoor bird show. First Baby A decided to scream at the top of her lungs inconsolably. I had left the bag with the milk out of the auditorium on the stroller. Kate took her out of the auditorium. I then began the task of trying to keep Henry in check. He was loud and wanted to stand up on the seat, lay down on the floor, and do everything he wasn't supposed to do. During the show birds flew around the auditorium so it was important that no one stood up or raised their hands. An inexperienced road runner decided he did not want to go back in his cage and spent an extended period of time running around the auditorium. He even flew into the middle of the audience and sat on the back of seats. He must have run around for at least 20 minutes during which time Henry was being a complete pain and Miss R was starting to be an accomplice. I couldn't take them out until the bird left the stage. Finally the bird was nabbed by the staff and I nabbed our two little do-do birds and left to join Kate with Baby A. I'll try to remember not to do that again.
When I left the auditorium I was glad to witness another ill behaved child, wouldn't want to think mine was the only one. She was probably 5 or 6 and was sitting by herself bemoaning her horrible day and how she wished she had never come and oh, wasn't it just horrible. Very dramatic but totally over acted. I was a little disheartened to think that getting older doesn't mean they behave better.
We missed a lot of the exhibits at the museum because we arrived late and the bird show took a while. We did get to see the mountain lions who are much more active at night. The bear was not cooperative but the wolves were fairly active as were the burrowing owls. We were relieved to have some drops of rain to cool us off while not getting us totally soaking wet. There was a good lightning storm to the north which was fun to watch.
This morning the kids slept until about 8am which is pretty late for them. We had waffles and spent the morning and afternoon at home. We decided to give our visitors a break after a rather full day on Saturday. I was fortunate that all 3 kids took a nap at once. I wanted to watch the British Open but it was a blowout so I napped on the couch while Kate ran errands.
In the evening we went to Kate's parents house for dinner. We swam in the pool for some time. Miss R didn't seem to want to get out. Henry had to get out a bit early since he was cold. Charlie and Wyatt stayed in for a very long time.
We had a wonderful dinner with Erin and Brian and Aunt Gloria in addition to my visiting family. Henry was a pain again and ended up in timeout and didn't really eat much dinner or desert. Miss R looked beautiful in a dress Kate bought for her. She received wonderful presents from everyone and seemed to really enjoy them despite looking like she was about to fall asleep.
Tomorrow is the big day when we adopt Miss R so we should have lots to blog about then.
