Henry the Wildman

Henry had a very active weekend. He is enjoying his new found skills, continuing to imitate, making new sounds, reaching up for toys while sitting, but is also getting frustrated by his physical limitations. He wants to be able to crawl and walk. On Saturday morning, we spent some time in the yard. We put the playpen outside, and Henry took a nap in it. In the afternoon, Grandpa came over for a visit and played with Henry. In the late afternoon/early evening, Henry made a "Da" sound. "Da Ba" was the "word" of the day. We went for our walk as usual. And, he was quite wired in the evening. He wore Jeff out. I was working on some course prep. Jeff wasn't having much success calming Henry down in the living room, so he went to our room and decided to put Henry in his crib with the mobile on. I went back to check on them about 20 minutes later. Jeff was passed out at the foot of the bed, and Henry was dozing comfortably in the crib.

We took Henry over to his grandparents' house this morning (Sunday). Jeff and I then went to breakfast, did a little shopping, and went back home for a spell. When headed back to my parents' house around 5PM. Henry had a busy day, only taking a nap for about a 1/2 hour. He did a lot of chatting, which my mom said included his first word..."poop." Incidentally, he did have some in his diaper at the time, but we suspect that this was coincidental. He spent some time outside in the pool area with Grandpa on the swing.

My parents went out to dinner tonight with some friends. We stayed at their place and did some dog sitting for a couple hours. The youngest member of their puppy dog clan, Indy, had eye surgery last week, which requires giving him eye drops on a schedule. Indy figured out how to rip off the plastic collar that is supposed to prevent him from scratching at his eyes. Fortunately, he doesn't do that too often, except right after having the drops in his eyes. So lots of petting is involved to distract him. And then there is Schroeder, who was having a rough day because of his allergies. He is a sensitive pup of about 11 years. Finally, there is Ramses, the 18 year old Pomeranian. He is quite a character. My parents acquired him almost 5 years ago when his previous owners were about to send him to the pound because they were tired of him (I'll spare everyone my speech on how most people should not be allowed to own pets). They had neglected him through most of his life, leaving him outside most of the time (in Tucson!!!). The average lifespan of a pompom is 10 years. Ramses was only expected to live a couple months when my parents got him. Once he got to Club Kenski, he became rejuvenated. Unfortunately, at 18 years of age, things are catching up to him. He needs a little bit of monitoring these days. I spent a lot of time tonight holding and petting him. He loves affection.

Henry had a good night. We did a lot of chatting with us. A lot of playing with his toys (completely different set of toys at the grandparents' house). He finally crashed in Jeff's arms around 9:30PM.
