Jeff took the kids to the zoo on Sunday. He reported that the big hit was the artificial grass near the aviary. Henry and Miss R had fun playing and climbing in that area. They also fed the giraffes. Henry was fearless and marched right up to them with the biscuits. Jeff dropped the kids off at my parents where they took their naps soon after.
Grammy and Poppy reported that the kids watched
Snow White. Apparently, Henry found it a bit too mushy and kept clapping at certain points, trying to convince Grammy and Miss R that it was over so that he could watch a real movie (i.e.
Lady and the Tramp). He even tried to convince them that the movie was over at the "death" scene of Snow White with the apple by clapping. Grammy said that he really was bored, but Miss R seemed to like it.

In the evening, we went out to dinner with the kids and my parents to celebrate a day early Miss R's birthday. We'll be having a little party with family and friends in a couple weeks. We hadn't planned a big celebration yet b/c we weren't sure that she was going to be with us. But we figure that after October 19, we'll have a much better sense of where things are at. In the meantime, we had a small celebration at Swenson's, which Miss R thoroughly enjoyed.
We picked up the kids and caravaned over to Swenson's. Miss R and Henry were motivated to get out the door of Grammy's house when they heard that ice cream was involved. Miss R was in a very good, giggly mood. She has this cute little laugh like a chipmunk when she is super happy.
I could tell that my dad was impatient at the length of time to get our order. Honestly, I don't think it was any longer than usual. It's just a bored Henry, trying to climb up the walls and under the table, going after the sugar packets and salt and pepper shakes, makes 20 minutes feel like an eternity.

Henry ate A LOT of food. Miss R did reasonably well too. We got them a children's meal to split b/c one is usually too much food for one child. Next time, I think that Henry could probably eat a whole one. We speculated that a growth spurt may be coming soon (he hasn't gotten a chubby little belly yet though). The meal deal includes a scoop of ice cream. We got them the birthday cake flavor. Henry, however, wasn't interested in it. He returned to sit next to Grammy and basically took Poppy's cherry bordeaux sundae and pretty much ate the WHOLE thing on his own. I shared my coffee soda with Poppy. I believe that Miss R polished off the whole scoop of birthday cake ice cream on her own.

We listened to 80s music as we drove to Bashas, the grocery store. Henry knows some of the words to "Wild, Wild West." Jeff ran into Bashas to pick up some treats for Miss R's class tomorrow as it is her birthday. Henry was mad that he wasn't allowed to go shopping too. Miss R was thoroughly entertained by my attempts at head banging to "Bang on the Drum All Day." She had a request however. She wanted to listen to the Mamma Mia! CD. Specifically, she wanted the Mamma Mia! song and requested it "again" three times on the way home, which played for her. It is, after all, almost her birthday.
The kids wanted to see the spider when we got home. Then, they got really crabby about teeth brushing and going to bed. I was really mad at Lily for destroying a USB key. Between her unhouse broken ways, eating my shoes and the kids' shoes, and taking everything out of the garbage in one of the bathrooms, I'm ready to throw her out on her behind. She isn't learning. We won't of course do that, but it is so tempting. I'm ready to let her and Jackson (who has been pooping and peeing on the carpet now too) fend for themselves with the coyotes.
