A CPS Visit

I called a couple day cares in the morning. We'll be visiting two of them next week. There are two that are supposed to be "the best" that we haven't visited. One, however, doesn't allow people to visit until a person is called up on the waiting list (which takes something like $75 to get on). The other place didn't answer their telephone. I sent them an email via their website.

I called Alison in the morning to see what was going on with Miss R's case. She had left a message for the CPS caseworker but hadn't heard back yet. A couple hours later, I got a call from Carmen, the CPS caseworker, asking if it was possible for her to do a home visit this afternoon. I said that would be fine. Carmen was nice. We got a little more information on the case. It turns out that Carmen did show up at La Fronterra for the last CFT (child family team meeting). She was waiting in the lobby, but no one bothered to inform her that that the meeting was in progress and its location. They were looking for the first CPS investigator, even though she had made it clear that the case would be switching to someone else at the first hearing. I'm comforted that CPS did show up, even if a miscommunication took place. We have a second CFT in June. There is a court date set for August, which is a review session and will illuminate further the course of action to be taken. We asked if it would be possible for Miss R to go with us on a family vacation to Portland in July. Carmen doesn't think that will be a problem, but she needs to get her supervisor's approval. Jeff and I are hoping to take Henry and Miss R to visit Grandpa Joe around or right after the 4th of July holiday. I think that we've decided that flying would be best. We're not sure that we could handle being trapped for 24 hours in a vehicle with toddlers.

Miss R and Henry were very cute during the visit. Miss R started off in my arms, but she eventually felt comfortable enough to run around the living room. She sat on our steps. Then, Henry sat right next to her. They are quite a pair. She took off, and Henry chased her.

All in all, the visit went well. I think that it was a pretty good representation of what Miss R is like when she is with us. I was pleased that Henry behaved himself. He did, however, take Carmen's keys and hide them under the museum bench, but they were easily found and retrieved by Jeff.

I'm home working on a book chapter. Jeff took The Twins over to my parents' house for swimming and dinner. It looked like some clouds rolled in, so I doubt that swimming took place.
