Dinner with the Grandparents

In my absence, Henry, Jeff, and Miss R had dinner with the Grammy and Poppy last night and tonight. Last night, they went to Swenson's. Jeff said that Henry ate very well. It's about time!

When I called last night, Miss R was already in bed, but Henry was still up. He told me about "Monsters" as he was watching it when I called. He likes "Mike & Sully." When we talked on the telephone this evening, Henry was up and Miss R had again gone to bed. It was 9PM in Tucson, so Miss R was doing what most kids their age should be doing. Henry did announce to Jeff that it was time for "bed" after a few minutes. So it was a short call. It is nice that Henry is choosing to go to "bed" by his own initiative from time to time.

I'm still a bit under the weather. I suppose that's good news for our budget b/c the food at the Westin Diplomat is incredibly expensive. The hotel is very beautiful. I finally walked along the beach this evening, and the water was perfect. At some point, I may have to figure out a way to get a year long visiting professor job at one of the universities in the area! I wish that Jeff, Henry, and Miss R could be here. It would be fun watching them play in the water together.

Tomorrow, there are supposedly two meetings involving Miss R that are going to take place...not that anyone has called us about the time and locations. Has La Frontera, the group organizing the case plans for the children's developmental services, called? A big fat NO. Has the Blake Foundation ever come back for the follow-up they promised at the first meeting? Another big fat NO. Has a case worker from CPS called about the meetings or just to check in? Ummm, that would be another NO. Our family specialist was supposed to get in touch with us to see what she could find out. Haven't heard from her either. Sigh.

One might ask the question, "What is the [fill-in-the-blank] point of having a meeting to discuss developmental services if (a) the child in question hasn't received an appropriate evaluation, and (b) no one has bothered to contact the foster parents for their observations about the child's development and potential need for services?" What are they going to discuss if Jeff isn't there? Hypothetical services?

The second meeting is the dependency hearing that was scheduled to take place at 4PM. There is a possibility that the parents have made some sort of negotiation with CPS which would abdicate the need for the hearing. Gee wiz, wouldn't it be a good idea to inform the foster parents so that they don't trek down to the courts unnecessarily? Am I asking for the world here?

What strikes me as amazing is we aren't talking about just one service, one case worker, or one agency/institution dropping the ball. We are talking about a multiple system failure. Can't any of them get it right? Has anyone actually looked at our little gal's file since the last hearing?

OK. I'm off my soap box now. I'm going to do a few more data runs before hitting the sack (a sack with 300 thread count sheets...I do love staying at Westin hotels).
