Daycare: Day 3

Dropping Henry and Miss R off at daycare was hard. Miss R protested being transferred to Josie, but I suspect that she settled down quickly. Henry was another matter. He was very upset about me leaving. I felt like I was abandoning him. I hate seeing his confidence shaken. Up to this point in his life, he's always been a very confident kid.

We both had productive work days w/o the kids around. I was tired b/c I hadn't slept the night before and had worked through the night, but I managed to get a lot done. I went with Jeff to pick up the kids. The kids in the class were around the tables, getting ready for a project. Henry was off on his own, reading a book. When we came into the room, he didn't look up. He was focused on the book. I kneeled beside him, and he still didn't look up, so I called his name. He looked at me but returned to the book. A couple pages later, he got up and gave me a hug. Miss Stephanie was away on vacation, so Miss Sara (?) was in the room. She is a floater and said that she gives other teachers relief for their breaks, and she'll be filling in for Miss Stephanie next week. She said that Henry was fine in the afternoon, but he cried a lot in the morning...just as he had the other days. That was a bit frustrating to hear b/c I was under the impression that he hadn't cried that long the other days.

We picked up Miss R who was on the playground. Miss Kristen said that she had a great day. She continues to eat all of the food given to her. She was very happy on Friday.

Our plan was to drop the kids off at my parents' house for awhile b/c my parents hadn't seen the kids in a couple of days. When we got there, Henry wanted to "go home." I think that he wanted to make sure that his home base was still intact. So we left after a couple minutes.

When we got home, Henry was demanding. He requested various DVDs. I acquiesced until DVD change request number five. I'm not sure that he really wanted to watch TV. He may have wanted just to boss me around. He tired out earlier than Miss R who wanted me to hold her while I read. Jeff went to the back with Henry.

On Saturday, we played with the kids and made them pancakes. I tried to get the kids involved in the pancake making by having them throw blueberries into the batter, after washing their hands of course. We went to the park. Henry climbed a tall climbing wall that was on the big kids' equipment. Jeff stood behind him, but Henry managed to climb all the way up himself. We played chase in the grassy area. Henry made friends with some older gals again. He followed this one girl (10 years old) around the park. Luckily, she found him cute rather than annoying. I think that Henry would be happiest in a classroom of 4-6the graders at an all-girls school. He has a knack for tracking them down at parks. We watched the kids at the skate park. There's a neat area for the bikers/skaters to do their tricks. The only thing bad about it is that they tend to use the f-word a lot (being junior high age boys).

We came home. Roger has been sick. Back end issues. So, I corralled the kids into the bedroom while Jeff broke out the Spot-Bot. Henry started off pretending that he was "sleeping" on the floor, but it turned into actual sleeping. He slept there for about a 1/2 hour. Miss R fell asleep on the bed. I got ready to go to a friend's baby shower; she lives in my parents' neighborhood.

Jeff played with the kids when they got up. He met me at my parents' house around 3:15PM. We spent some time together in the afternoon. Then, I did some shopping while Jeff got the kids. Henry was sacked out by the time he got home; Miss R played with me in the living room.

At 5:30AM, Henry called out for me. That's rare. He just wanted to know where I was. He calmed down, and I got up to take Roger for a walk. It is 7:50AM now. Henry's been up since I got back from the walk. Miss R is still asleep. I'm going to go make breakfast.
