The kids slept past 7:30AM on Saturday. That was nice. Jeff made them pancakes. I made him green slime. We got ready and headed to the zoo around 10AM.
The kids fed the giraffes like experts. I was impressed that Miss R was naming animals without prompting. Henry hung out with a girl who looked like she was about 6. Henry's favorite part of the zoo was the frog that spits water. Jeff took off the kids' shirts so that they could get really wet. Henry was soaked through and through. Miss R was wetter than usual. I was pleased to see her touching the water, if not putting her head in it. She also managed to climb some railing on her own. I was pleased with that too. I mean I know that kids aren't really supposed to climb fences but it was nice seeing her engage those motor skills!
We saw lots of animals. The kids ran around. We were thrilled to see the bears move! Usually, they sleep. Today, one got up, walked around, and then sat in the pool! The aviary in the South America section was a hit. Miss R didn't want to look at the birds though. She was more interested in hanging out in the "egg" while Jeff and Henry looked around and went in and out the doors. We bought the kids a hot dog for lunch. Henry ate the hot dog only because he needed something to use to scoop up the ketchup.
Henry and Miss R fell asleep in the car. We dropped them off at Grammy and Poppy's house. Miss R napped until 4:10PM! Probably has something to do with last night's lousy sleep. Grammy and Poppy took the kids to Home Depot's nursery. The sprinklers were on, and Henry said, "The rain, again, again!"
Jeff and I went to our eye appointments after dropping off the kids. We had an early dinner at El Charro. Then it was home. I walked the dogs. Jeff went and hit some golf balls before picking up the kids. In the span of 21 minutes, the Arizona sky can change dramatically. Below is evidence of what my Dad would call "God's Country"...
When the kids got home, we tried to play with the Thomas the Tank Engine set. Jeff and I built up the rail, and Henry tore it down. The kids brushed their teeth after Miss R's nebulizing treatment and Henry's dose of antibiotics. They went to bed without fuss. I've heard Miss R cough a little bit, but it isn't as bad as last night.
Tomorrow, Jeff plans to take the kids to the park while I work. I just made contact with a person on craigslist who is selling Thomas trains (14), track, tunnels, bridge, and the round house for $75, which is perfect! I was just planning to go to Toys R Us to get more stuff, but slightly used is A-OK if it works and is significantly less expensive than buying it brand new. We'll take a look at it tomorrow.
